Job Description - Our Higher Apprenticeship
Programme lasts up to 72 months depending on any prior learning that can be accredited. After spending an initial period at college learning the engineering basics, you’ll begin at one of our company sites developing your competencies, whilst continuing your studies. If selected we will match your aptitudes, abilities and preferences against our business requirements to place you on the most appropriate skills pathway.
As a company we ultimately will decide which role best suits you based upon our business needs but your preference will be taken into account. While on this Programme you’ll earn an appropriate fully sponsored NVQ in Performing Engineering Operations, an NVQ4 in your area of specialism as well as an appropriate, fully sponsored Engineering degree. The types of roles available differ from site to site but the majority of opportunities will be within the Production Supervisor Pathway. While you complete your degree, you’ll be growing your practical engineering know-how and developing your supervisory skills to ensure your team deliver high quality products within a fast-paced and cost-conscious manufacturing environment.
Whilst completing your degree within the Product Development Pathway, you will be applying your engineering skills in one of two key areas. In Vehicle Calibration you will carry out various tests in order to gather & interpret performance data in support of our vehicle development programmes. The Computer Aided Design (CAD) role will develop your base understanding of forming & machining techniques, allowing you to blend Computer Aided Engineering and Modelling in delivering vehicle geometry. Within the Manufacturing Engineering pathway you will play a vital role in the launch planning and smooth delivery of exciting new products to our customers. Your degree will help you to focus upon advanced manufacturing techniques and the project management skills required in the launching of vehicles on time, every time. Within the Finance Pathway you’ll develop a core understanding of engineering in addition to financial and analytical skills which will be put to use in our Engineering Cost Estimation department. Business Acumen is key in this area so, in addition to completing your degree, you will be exposed to several business functions as part of your development. The Purchasing Pathway will build your experience by solving supplier technical issues on our Manufacturing sites alongside developing technical knowledge whilst studying for your degree. Your further development will include visiting suppliers to help them grow their lean manufacturing techniques and quality approach.
Candidate profile
Qualification Entry Requirements for Higher Apprenticeships The following criteria must all be met: • A minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above (or equivalent) including Maths, English and a core Science subject • An A-level at Grade C or above in a Mathematical subject • An A-Level at Grade C or above in a Science or Technology or Engineering related subject.
We may also consider a relevant level 4 or above equivalent engineering qualification depending on the content studied, breadth and depth, and grade achieved. Unfortunately we do not accept "Functional or Key Skills level 2" as an equivalent qualification to GCSE Maths or English if you did not achieve Grade C in those subjects, as whilst these are similar in terms of being classed as a level 2 qualification the content does not have the depth of coverage we require. If this is the case we strongly advise re-sitting those GCSE qualifications before applying.
